Blog 5: The Middletown Overlook

Everyone loves a good view and this one might be the best in all of Frederick county. Up in Gambrill State Park sits a stone porch facing west overlooking the town of Middletown. If you get there around sunset you will see one of the prettiest views you my ever see. It’s honestly hard to describe it’s just something you just kinda have to experience for yourself but here’s a picture of one of the times I went up to the overlook.

Blog 4: The Secret Pond

A huge place to go for biking, fishing, hiking, and really anything outdoors is the Frederick Municipal watershed. It is a great place for just about anything the land is scattered with ponds rivers hiking trails and it’s connected to Gambrill state park. However, within watershed lays a pond that is hidden behind a wall of trees and is impossible to see from the road. The pond is littered with wildlife and is a great place to go and get away from people. It is also where I have caught one of my biggest bass of my life so the fishing there ain’t too shabby. So, if you’re looking for a place to get away, a place with no cell service or people to bother you, this is the place for you.

Blog 3: Weverton

Now I know I usually only talk about places that doesn’t have a real name and especially don’t have a geofilter on snapchat. However, I am a huge hiking enthusiast and this is one of my favorite local trails. It’s a great simple 45 minute to hour long trail near Knoxville Maryland. The whole trail is short but not necessarily that easy it is pretty much entirely up hill and can wear you out. However, the view is fantastic! When you get to the weverton cliff at the top, you get a front row seat overlooking the edge of Maryland and Virginia with the Potomac River rushing between the state borders. Overall it is a fantastic trail and isn’t a very busy trail. If you see more than 10 people in the trail the whole time you’re there I would. be amazed. It’s a great places to go on a nice sunny day and go enjoy nature and get a little exercise at the same time.

Blog 2: Poff’s Rock

Over in the edge of Middletown and Jefferson sits a 15 foot rock sitting next to Catoctin Creek. The rock is a great place to go and cool off during a hot summer day. It is not only beautiful it’s also relatively private so you and your friends aren’t likely to be bothered. It offers a ton of different possible activities to indulge in. You could go fishing in the stocked creek that flows right into the Catoctin Creek Park, or Kayaking or even just swimming in the 10 foot deep swimming hole with the natural 15 foot diving board known as Poff’s Rock.

Blog 1: The Quarry

Off of route 355 in Frederick you will find one of the busiest businesses in Frederick…. Target. Now if you walk out of the back of Target and just start walking North you’ll find yourself standing at one of Fredericks best hidden gems, the Frederick quarry. Now a quarry might not seem like a normal place to go and visit, however, When the sun begins to set it offers one of the most beautiful views in in Mid Maryland. Due to the chemicals in the rock the rain water sits in the bottom of the quarry and turns into a beautiful greenish/blueish tint. The color of the water and the colors of the sunset play on each other like nothing i’ve ever seen before. This why the quarry is one of my personal favorite places to go to in Frederick.
